As a company that is quickly dominating the auto industry, Tesla has had a streak of impressive performances recently. The Model S P100D is already a record-holder thanks to its break-neck acceleration of 0-60Mph in 2.28 seconds. Now, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is hinting that the Roadster 4.0 might beat that by reaching the same acceleration at under two seconds.
Fans of the renegade company will likely be familiar with the first Roadster, which is what helped launch the Tesla brand in the minds of auto enthusiasts. It wasn’t perfect but had great enough features to pave the way for the Model S. In a recent Tweet conversation where a follower asked Musk about the new version of the sports vehicle, the tech billionaire replied that two seconds would be a doable target.
That would an interesting target. Would, of course, only count if capable of doing so right off the production line with street legal tires.

“That would an interesting target,” Musk Tweeted, referring to the follower’s question if the Roadster will do 0-60Mph in under two seconds. “Would, of course, only count if capable of doing so right off the production line with street legal tires.”
Supposedly, the new Roadster is going to have something called “Maximum Plaid,” which is a reference to the movie Space Balls. This is likely a means of giving the new Roadster unparalleled acceleration. Considering that the sports car is going to have a lighter body than the 4,500-lb Model S, fans can certainly expect something mind-blowing, Electrek reports.
There’s also the part about Musk’s tweet that reads “right off the production line with street legal tires,” which hints that the Roadster might go even faster using additional components. Unfortunately, there are still no concrete details as to when the world will see the car or what it will even look like. Considering that Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen expressed substantial interest in a sports type vehicle, however, it’s likely going to be beautiful.
