Taco Bell will be testing the new Beyond Carne Asada Steak in some of its Dayton, Ohio stores beginning October 13.
Dariush Ajami, Beyond Meat's chief innovation officer, noted that consumers are looking for environment-friendly protein options that do not compromise on taste.
He added that Beyond Carne Asada Steak is designed to specifically complement the bold, savory flavors that Taco Bell is known for and delivers the texture of a marinated, grilled steak with the added benefits of plant-based meat.
The Taco Bell-branded spices are used to flavor the certified vegan protein, which is made from ingredients like fava bean protein and essential wheat gluten.
Additionally, Taco Bell is promoting the protein's price parity with regular steak.
Beyond Carne Asada Steak will be offered in a quesadilla for the same price as a typical steak quesadilla, which costs $5.19, but it may also be substituted for steak in any dish on the full Taco Bell menu at no extra charge.
