Suzuki has launched the e Vitara, its first-ever electric SUV, designed to be a game-changer as it heads to Toyota’s global lineup with unique branding. Powered by a specialized eAxle and ALLGRIP-e AWD, the e Vitara stands as a joint venture milestone for both brands in the electrified future.
Suzuki Unveils First All-Electric SUV, the e Vitara
Suzuki, a Japanese automaker, has debuted its first all-electric model. A worldwide electric SUV that will soon be available from Toyota, the e Vitara was unveiled in Europe on Monday by Suzuki, Electrek reports.
To keep up with the industry's rapid transition to electric vehicles, Toyota and Suzuki have joined forces. Last month, the two companies announced plans for Suzuki to supply Toyota with a new worldwide electric SUV, further expanding their collaboration.
Collaboration with Toyota for Electric Transition
The new SUV was built "exclusively as a BEV" on a basis that Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor collaborated on.
Suzuki provided us a clearer idea of what to expect after presenting the e Vitara on Monday. The eVX Concept, unveiled at India's Auto Expo in January of last year, served as the inspiration for Suzuki's next electric vehicle.
Design Inspired by eVX Concept
This electric SUV, according to Suzuki, "combines a sense of advanced technology and strength" and is based on their "Emotional Versatile Cruiser" idea. A brand new "HEARTECT-e" structure and powertrain provide the electric vehicle exceptional agility and responsiveness on the road.
The lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries and eAxle (electric motor and inverter) are the new powertrain components from Suzuki.
Advanced Powertrain and All-Wheel Drive
There is plenty of room for passengers on the platform that was made for electric vehicles. The electric SUV from Suzuki comes equipped with an all-wheel drive "ALLGRIP-e" technology that enhances its performance and capability off-road.
Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki Motor Corporation, stated that the firm will "continue to expand our BEV line-up and propose mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions."
Launch Timeline and Market Availability
Comparable in size to Kia's new EV3 (4,300 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, 1,560 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,680 mm), the e Vitara measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height.
The electric SUV will come with 49 and 61 kWh battery options, but the exact driving range is still a mystery. Last January, Suzuki announced that the concept would have a maximum driving range of 342 miles (550 km).
At its Gujarat facility in India, where it also supplies Toyota, Suzuki will start manufacturing the new electric SUV in the spring of 2025. European, Indian, and Japanese sales will begin in the summer of 2025.
