With the release of a “Steven Universe” double episode special last July 6, questions of a potential release delay for “Steven Universe” season 5 episode 25 are being brought up. This may be due in part to season 5's rocky start, with episode 4 and episode 5 being almost 7 months apart.
The last time that “Steven Universe” did a double episode release was episodes 8 and 9 of season 4, “Gem Harvest.” The time between that double episode and episode 10 of season 4 was simply a span of two weeks.
Even with “Steven Universe's” reputation for haphazard scheduling of episodes, fans shouldn't be worried as “Steven Universe” season 5 episode 25 can optimistically be expected to be aired within the next month or two.
Season 5 episode 23/24, titled “Reunited,” is set during Ruby and Sapphire's wedding day. Steven keeps himself busy to distract everyone from recent traumatic events and revelations by helping out with the wedding arrangements. He leads the ceremony by singing the song “Let's Only Think About Love.” Ruby and Sapphire proceed to say their vows and fuse back into Garnet. During the reception, Blue and Yellow Diamond arrive and attempt to activate the cluster. The Cluster is activated, taking the form of a giant arm and proceeding to fight Yellow Diamond's spaceship.
The two Diamonds are apparently wedding crashing to avenge the destruction of Pink Diamond. Blue Diamond ignores Steven's pleas that Pink Diamond was never shattered and proceeds to round up everyone. Connie and Lion elude capture, and a massive battle ensues. Lapis arrives and declares allegiance to the Crystal Gems. In the ensuing battle, Steven is knocked out by Yellow Diamond. He awakens in a disembodied state and in a cliffhanger ending, which ends with Blue Diamond saying to him, “It's you, Pink.”
Hopefully, “Steven Universe” season 5 episode 25 can provide more clarity on the cliffhanger ending that the last double episode has given after the massive battle shook the beloved “Steven Universe” characters to the core.
