Stellantis Korea has named its new president, who was revealed to be the former managing director of Renault Korea. The automotive manufacturing company appointed Bang Sil to lead the Korean unit of its auto business.
As per Korea Joongang Daily, Bang Sil has also become the first Korean woman to head Stellantis with her appointment. The company confirmed her promotion to the president post on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
Bang Sil's Work History
Stellantis Korea formally started operations in the country in 2021, and since then, the company has never had a female senior executive in management. Thus, Bang Sil is the first female director and Korean woman to lead the firm in the region.
Bang Sil's work as the new president at Stellantis Korea will begin on Feb. 1. Although she recently joined the company, she has been in the automobile business for over 20 years, holding chiefly marketing job posts. Bang Sil worked at Volkswagen Korea and moved to Renault Korea in 2015, where she led the marketing team for nine years.
Bang Pledges to Increase Stellantis' Presence in Korea
Stellantis is experiencing declining sales in the country, where it primarily markets three vehicle brands: DS Automobiles, Jeep, and Peugeot. Last year, the firm sold 4,512 units of Jeep, which was a 37% decrease compared to the previous year.
Moreover, it only sold 2,026 Peugeot units and 153 DS vehicles. Bang Sil's assignment is to increase sales, so she promised to work on this as Stellantis Korea's new president.
"Based on President Bangsil's leadership and deep knowledge of the Korean market, we are confident that he will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the Stellantis brand in Korea by understanding the needs of Korean customers more closely," Korea's Financial News quoted Ashwani Muppasani, the chief operating officer of Stellantis India and Asia Pacific, as saying in a statement.
Bang Sil commented, "It is an honor to take on an important mission at Stellantis with a great sense of responsibility. We will strengthen communication with major stakeholders, including dealers and customers as well as internally, and improve Stellantis' presence in Korea and make the brand more deeply imprinted in the minds of customers."
