Starbucks Malaysia unveils its first Signing Store in Borneo's Vivacity Megamall, Kuching, solidifying its commitment to fostering inclusivity for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This follows successful establishments in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
Since its soft launch on July 27, 2023, the store has received overwhelming and positive customer feedback. According to Dato' Sydney Quays, Chief Executive Officer of Berjaya Food Berhad and Managing Director of Starbucks Malaysia & Brunei, the opening of the Signing Store at Vivacity Megamall reflects Starbucks Malaysia's unwavering commitment to creating a positive impact in the communities it serves.
To embrace diversity and empower the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community, Starbucks Malaysia envisions a welcoming environment that offers exceptional coffee experiences and promotes a sense of belonging and equal opportunity. For the past 24 years, Starbucks Malaysia has been a transformative force, placing humanity at the core of its operations.
In 2016, the introduction of the first Starbucks Signing Store globally marked a significant step toward fostering personal growth, empowerment, and self-confidence among the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community in Malaysia. Presently, Starbucks has opened 20 Signing Stores across various countries.
Opening the third Signing Store in Malaysia strengthens Starbucks' commitment to raising awareness and appreciation of the Deaf community while providing employment opportunities and advancement for Deaf partners. Starbucks remains Malaysia's only coffee chain brand dedicated to supporting the Deaf community.
Starbucks Malaysia collaborates closely with the Sarawak Society for the Deaf (SSD), offering professional Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) interpretation services and hosting various activities for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community. Together, they provide a platform for community members to gather, share ideas, and explore job opportunities.
Starbucks Malaysia continues to lead the way in creating an inclusive and empowering environment, positively impacting society.
