The developer of “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2” is pretty much confirmed at this point following official statements from EA and Lucasfilm Games earlier this year. While the companies have yet to release official details about the sequel, a new report suggests its release date is slated for next year, and fans of the series may have to get the new-generation consoles to play.
The report comes from well-known gaming insider Jeff Grubb during an episode of his Giant Bomb podcast “Grubbsnax” (via VGC). Grubb said, “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2” will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC only, which suggests that the game is being developed primarily for the current generation of consoles. This could also mean that PC gamers might eventually see relatively higher system requirements to play the sequel.
Developing games for newer hardware with more high-end specifications could also take time, and that appears to be the reason “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2” is not planned to launch this year. “One of the reasons that they’re going to be able to do that is because it’s not coming out until 2023. This game is for sure now not coming out until 2023,” Grubb said.
The VentureBeat reporter added that console gamers might have an easier time buying PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in the coming months, which would be good for the planned new-gen-only release of the game. Grubb added that there are advantages to focusing the “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2” development on newer consoles since developers do not have to worry about the technical gaps between the last-gen consoles and their predecessors.
While fans are referring to the upcoming game as “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2,” Grubb also hinted at a potential change in its title. The insider suggested that EA and Respawn Entertainment might eventually ditch the “Fallen Order” title.
While Lucasfilm Games have previously confirmed its partnership with other game publishers for new “Star Wars” games, the company reaffirmed its partnership with EA earlier this year. The companies announced they are working on three new games, including the “next game in the ‘Star Wars Jedi’ franchise,” along with a new first-person shooter and a new strategy game.
