“Star Trek Discovery” season 2 is coming to the small screen and filming has already begun. CBS announced the sci-fi drama’s renewal in October last year after a very successful premiere with season 1.

While announcing the renewal of the show, Marc DeBevoise , president and CEO of CBS Interactive, told Star Trek.com, “In just six episodes, ‘Star Trek Discovery’ has driven subscriber growth, critical acclaim and huge global fan interest for the first premium version of this great franchise.”

New Spock

As “Star Trek Discovery” season 2’s production is underway, many details about it have been coming out in the last few months. For starters, it was revealed that the showrunners have chosen the actor who will play the young Spock.

It was previously stated that “Star Trek Discovery” season 2 is presenting a narrative that is set 10 years before the time shown in the first season. Thus, a younger Spock will be on the show the whole time in the upcoming installment.

The producers cast Ethan Peck for the important role. The new co-showrunner, Alex Kurtzman, said that they took extra care in selecting the actor who will be the best fit for the iconic role of the half-Vulcan, half-human science officer of the USS Enterprise.

"We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. He added, “Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack (Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto), and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy.”

The cast of “Star Trek Discovery” season 2 warmly welcomed the younger version of the legendary character. In a Twitter update of Adam Nimoy, the son of the original Spock in the “Star Trek” series, he posted a photo with Ethan Peck.

Cast

“Star Trek Discovery” season 2 will still feature a handful of fixed characters like Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Doug Jones (Saru), and Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets). Anson Mount, who starred in “Inhumans” recently, confirmed that he was added to the cast as Pike.

Air Date

“Star Trek Discovery” season 2 may arrive in early 2019. As showrunner Alex Kurtzman explained, they do not want to rush things. They want to “take the right amount of time” so that they can present a show that will be worth the wait.
