Over the past few months, “Splitgate” has undoubtedly become one of the independently-produced games that caught the attention of many fans. While it continues to reach new milestones while in open beta, developer 1047 Games announced that its full launch may be delayed indefinitely.
Per the latest announcements from the developer, “Splitgate” was planned to launch sometime this month. However, 1047 Games confirmed in a press release this week that there has been a change of plans.
Ian Proulx, 1047 Games CEO, and co-founder, announced that “Splitgate” would “remain in open beta for the foreseeable future.” That also means fans who have been loving the portal-filled multiplayer shooter will have to wait again for the release date of the game’s version 1.0.
The announcement also comes as 1047 Games confirmed that “Splitgate” has been downloaded 10 million times. The developer attributed the success to the start of open beta just last month.
The Splitgate Beta has hit 10 Million Downloads!!????We've come so far since starting the Open Beta in July, but there's more work to be done before we're ready to release.

We might be extending the Beta, but be on the lookout during @gamescom on Aug 25th for more exciting news!
It is a common issue, albeit a positive one, for indie developers to try to catch up with server capacity when their game suddenly becomes widely popular. However, 1047 Games also said they could not address the current limitations of “Splitgate” by just increasing server capacity.
Data from SteamDB shows that the game has seen more than 61,000 players for its average daily peak over the last 30 days, or roughly within the same duration of the open beta. Just last June, the website shows “Splitgate” was only averaging 846 players daily as a free-to-play title on Steam.
“We are focused on keeping the game stable for fans, and iterating on the game’s concurrent capacity in order to minimize player wait times,” Proulx added (via PC Gamer). The developer also said they want to be ready for a massive influx of players once “Splitgate” fully launches. Aside from improving server capacity, the studio aims to release regular updates and introduce new features as the game stays in open beta for now.
On the bright side, it appears that 1047 Games is preparing to announce more good news about “Splitgate” later this month. The developer told fans to watch out for their appearance at Gamescom, which will kick off on Aug. 25.
