The next Splatoon 2 Splatfest is coming and it seems the developers have something extra special in mind for the players. Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise are going to love the planned crossover with the Squids, which is actually also a marketing stunt to promote the upcoming Rise of the Turtles series that will premiere on Nickelodeon.
As Comicbook.com points out, Splatfests are a lot of fun and the last two by Splatoon 2 have been especially amazing. The themes might be quirky, but somehow, the results are always players having the time of their lives and this upcoming one is not likely to be any different.
It’s also quite apt in terms of the planned event since the mere concept of TMNT is beyond quirky when looked at objectively. As for what players can actually expect from the event, a press release provides all the details that fans can expect.
"To participate, players won’t be asked to order a pizza, hop on a skateboard or save the city from an army of masked ninjas – they can just start voting for their pick beginning on April 27 simply by visiting the in-game Inkopolis Square. The first of three in-game Splatoon 2 Splatfest tournaments takes place May 4-5 and pits Raph against Leo, with the second running May 11-12 and featuring Mikey vs. Donnie. The final match between the winners of the first two showdowns takes place May 18-19," the press release reads.
Nintendo of America Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Doug Bowser (no relations) also touched on the matter of the team-up involving Nickelodeon for the upcoming TMNT series.
“We love working with unexpected partners to expand our brand and bring smiles to people’s faces in surprising ways,” Bowser said. “Teaming up with Nickelodeon and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made perfect sense, as we share many of the same fans who enjoy family-friendly entertainment and classic characters.”
