Sony Mobile will be releasing a new Xperia phone this year. If fact, reports say that the gadget, which might be named Xperia 5 Plus, will likely be released next month.
Based on leaked renders from Steve H.McFly, also known as OnLeaks, the upcoming Xperia 5 Plus will retain the rectangular design of its predecessors, the Xperia 1 and the Xperia 5. This allows the phone to have a smaller bezel and, therefore, a bigger display, according to Express.
“Here comes your very first look at which I assume will be launched as #SONY #XPERIA5Plus! (who really knows about naming schemes nowadays?” OnLeaks posted on Twitter. “360° video + gorgeous 5K renders + dimensions + few specs, on behalf of... Myself and @Slashleaks.”
The renders show that the Xperia 5 Plus will only have a very slim bezel on top of its 6.6-inch OLED screen. This bezel will house likely house its single selfie camera but there are also talks that it might have two front-facing cameras as well, according to Pocketlint.
The phone’s back part will look similar to the current Xperia 5. A large Sony logo can be seen in the middle and there’s a vertically stacked rear camera assembly located on the phone’s upper left portion.
The camera block seems to suggest that the assembly will contain four lenses. This could mean that the upcoming phone will have a primary camera, a telephoto lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens as well as a time-of-flight (ToF) lens, a combination that has become the standard for other brands’ flagships.
The Xperia 5 Plus will sport a fingerprint scanner that is mounted at the side. There are no talks about facial scanners from 3D unlocking or an ultra-sonic reader beneath its screen though so it might only have the side-mounted fingerprint scanner as its security feature.
One surprising feature that the Xperia 5 Plus might have is a headphone jack, GSMArena reported. If this is true, it may be one of the few phones available on the market that comes with the port.
The upcoming Xperia phone is expected to have a generous amount of RAM as well as computing power. The gadget will have 12GB of RAM and will be powered with Snapdragon 865 processor.
Sony Mobile usually launches new products during its press conferences at the MWC. It is highly likely that it will launch the Xperia 5 Plus on February 24, 2020, which is the opening day of the Mobile World of Congress 2020 to be held in Barcelona.
