Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo were once known as South Korea's golden couple, but this did not last long as they are now officially divorced just after 20 months of marriage. It was the actor who filed for divorce on June 26, and it was reported that the actress learned about it after coming back to the country after finishing her work overseas.
The divorce of Joong Ki and Hye Kyo is not just controversial because of their names, but it became the talk of the town worldwide because they were only married for less than two years plus the reason for their split is unclear. Although the actress’ side claimed “personality differences” as the cause, people are convinced that there is more to what they are sharing to the public.
Did the actor get less work after his divorce?
Less than a month after Song Joong Ki filed for divorce from Song Hye Kyo, the family court in Seoul declared them as officially singles after approving their divorce application. There was no trial in the case, so it ended quickly with the no alimony or division of properties settlement.
Now, it was reported that the divorce had a negative effect on the “Descendants of the Sun” actor as he is getting fewer job offers, as per the Malay Mail. It was said that Joong Ki lost many potential earnings as he is not getting that many product endorsements these days. His workload was said to have significantly dropped after his divorce was announced to the world.
Companies added divorce clauses
After Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo broke up, many production companies in South Korea reportedly added divorce clauses in their contracts. This was done to protect the dramas they are starring in and avoid controversies as well. Probably, the idea came up after the viewership ratings of Joong Ki’s “Arthdal Chronicles” drama reportedly slid down after his divorce news came out.
Meanwhile, both Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo are actively working now. While the actress had resumed work a week after the divorce announcement, the former returned to filming his movie after a few weeks of hiatus. The actress is expected to take a break later this year and actively work again next year.
