When it comes to fusing technology and fashion, the resulting items can often be a mess that makes no one on either aisle completely happy. It seems the partnership between Levi’s and Google bore that rare exception of a fruit, however, with the Smart Jacket they recently unveiled. By all accounts, it’s a marvelous piece of technology, but it’s first and foremost an unmistakably fashionable item.
The new tech item was showcased and demoed during the recent South by Southwest gathering, where attendees were given the chance to actually try the jacket on, Forbes reports. The item comes in a variety of sizes, as clothing samples are often expected to have. Both Levi’s and Google are also planning to put the product in the market in a few months with a price tag of $350.
While the jacket’s technological aspects are certainly worth touching on, what might really strike consumers first about the Smart Jacket is that it’s actually quite fashionable. Tech and clothing combos often have to make certain sacrifices in that area, resulting in bulky, often ugly products. What Levi’s has managed to design and Google was able to achieve with its technology is breathtakingly stylish.
On that note, customers will also want to know exactly what the jacket can do for them in terms of features, which PC Mag explains well enough. Basically, the Smart Jacket is equipped with sensors that are all tied to a tag sewed into the garment. This will allow the wearer to connect the clothes with their smartphone in order to provide easy connectivity.
With the jacket, users will be able to answer calls and access some other functions and apps on their phones. This is meant to suit those times when getting ahold of the device isn’t so easy, so users can just gesture.
