“Sherlock” is a show that requires patience from its fans. Not only is it three episodes long for each season, the period between each season can also stretch out for years. This is why fans are not expecting “Sherlock” Season 5 to come out any time soon. Few even expect to hear about it for at least next year. However, the owner of one of the show’s iconic locations just let it slip that the new season might be coming sooner than anyone thinks.
The location is Speedy’s Sandwich Bar & Café, which fans of the show will immediately recognize as the dining establishment below the apartment of the show’s titular character. Now, it’s worth noting that 221B Baker Street is actually a few blocks away from this location. The series only uses this spot because traffic is easier to control. It’s also key to giving fans hope that “Sherlock” Season 5 is coming.
In a recent report by TimeOut, the owner of Speedy’s, Chris Georgiou, appears to have had a slip of the tongue when he revealed that “Sherlock” Season 5 might be in the works. He didn’t provide details, but as the owner of one of the show’s most iconic features, he’s more likely to be in the know than most.
“I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but I’ve heard they’ll be coming back for a fifth season,” Georgiou told the publication.
Typically, shows like “Sherlock” would have binding NDAs that they have pertinent people sign to ensure their silence, and Georgiou might just be one of these people. If so, revealing such information about “Sherlock” Season 5 might put him in violation of it.
Of course, this could all end up going nowhere. As Radio Times reports, the show’s co-creators have already left it to work on other projects, leaving the possibility of “Sherlock” Season 5 in doubt. If what Speedy’s owner says is true, fans would have plenty of reasons to rejoice. One can only hope this indiscretion doesn’t cost Georgiou too much.
