Freeform's supernatural drama show may not have been saved by fan efforts to get the show renewed after the announcement that “Shadowhunters” season 3 will be its final season. Unlike certain other shows which found new homes on networks willing to take a chance on their production, no other studio has taken up the challenge of taking “Shadowhunters” from its current home.
But it looks like the fight for a future beyond “Shadowhunters” season 3 could still happen. In a piece by CarterMatt, the publication mentions the fact that “Shadowhunters” is currently a strong contender in this year's People's Choice Awards. The show is currently a nominee for Show of the Year as well as Fantasy/Sci-Fi Show of 2018, while “Shadowhunters” season 3 actors Harry Shum Jr. and Katherine McNamara are nominees for Male and Female TV Stars of 2018.
Considering the fervent fan support the series has had – going as extreme as having the words “Save the Shadowhunters” flown above Netflix's headquarters – the People's Choice Awards may be the perfect venue for fans to let networks know just how profitable it would be for them to pick up the show. As CarterMatt mentions, “it would be an awesome statement if the results go in the show's favor.”
Despite the finality of the cancellation announcement early this year as well as all the goodbyes and resignation that the “Shadowhunters” season 3 cast and crew have showered on fans, a People's Choice Awards endorsement might go a long way. Hopefully, with the People's Choice Awards results being released prior to the second half's broadcast, fans can see a day when their favorite show gets saved from getting shut down.
Fans looking forward to seeing the final half of “Shadowhunters” season 3 may have to wait for an exact broadcast date but can be assured that the show will return in the early part of 2019. If the show is unable to get a last-minute renewal, fans can still appreciate all the passion that the show's cast and crew have poured into the production of “Shadowhunters” season 3's last half.
