“Seven Deadly Sins” chapter 284 is looking to be the installment that finally reveals why Meliodas and Ban still cannot defeat the Demon King. The previous chapter has already confirmed Meliodas and Ban's suspicion that the Demon King's power, called “The Ruler,” was reversing the damage being dealt the antagonist, effectively healing him.
But even with the knowledge about how the Demon King's power works, Meliodas is unable to defeat him even through multiple battles. To make matters worse, it was the Demon King himself who confirmed the effects of his power and even deactivates it during the battle to see how much of a challenge Meliodas would be.
According to unconfirmed spoilers, Meliodas, Ban, and Hawk will continue to fight the Demon King in “Seven Deadly Sins” chapter 284. While the team might do better armed with the knowledge about the Demon King's capabilities – as well as the Demon King no longer using magic so that Meliodas cannot counter him – the team will still be defeated by the Demon King.
But fans would be interested to know that the spoilers mention Meliodas using his magic to be able to defeat their enemy, with the “Seven Deadly Sins” chapter 284 teaser line “the strongest demon unleashes his hidden magic.” This might hint at Meliodas giving in to use his old magical powers in a desperate attempt to defeat the Demon King.
Fans also can potentially expect a deeper revelation of Meliodas's magical ability to be triggered by his conversations with Ban. This could also shed new light on his actual nature if he is able to tap into a deeper source of magical power.
