Secure Technology Alliance to Provide New Webinar Series on Procuring, Implementing PIV-enabled Access Security for Government Facilities

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., Sept. 26, 2017 -- The Secure Technology Alliance announced today it will offer a six-part webinar series on how to procure and implement PIV¹-enabled physical access control systems (PACS) for government facilities. The series, created for systems engineers, facility managers, physical security personnel, and other government facilities’ stakeholders, will launch in October and will continue into 2018.

As an introduction to the multi-part series, the first webinar, “How to Plan, Procure and Deploy a PIV-Enabled PACS,” will provide an overview of the PACS landscape, identify the key stakeholders and outline what to know before starting a new project. Speakers for the October 19 webinar are: Mike Kelley, Parsons; Bill Windsor, U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Lars Suneborn, Secure Technology Alliance Education Program; and Randy Vanderhoof, Secure Technology Alliance.

“There are best practices for planning and deploying a PIV-compliant PACS in a government facility, and often those responsible for procurement are either not aware or have an unclear understanding of new PIV-related requirements,” said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Secure Technology Alliance. “This workshop will provide practical guidance for government organizations who seek to understand how to implement standards-based PACS for high-assurance identity verification.”

Each webinar will focus on one aspect of implementing PIV-enabled PACS for a government facility, including:

• Understanding what is included in a PACS project, such as characterizing a facility and establishing what the risk is to that facility
• Establishing a project scope, including identifying and mitigating potential risks, determining effectiveness, identifying potential solutions and providers that meet organization objectives
• Developing a procurement strategy, from determining key responsibilities to drafting contract documents and obtaining funding
• Implementing a solution, from establishing a schedule and developing a plan to finalizing system design, training and lifecycle management
• Learning from specific use cases, including identifying barriers and solutions to comply with FICAM guidance

The Secure Technology Alliance’s second webinar in the series, “Facility Characterization and Risk Assessment,” will answer the question, “what is included in a PACS project?” and will be held on November 30, 2017 at 2:00 pm ET (11:00 am PT).
