“Scandal,” ABC’s hit political drama, will reportedly come to an end much sooner.
TVLine first reported on Wednesday that there is a plan to do a formal announcement about the show bowing out next week Tuesday. It was also said that series creator Shonda Rhimes herself has made the decision to end the show, of which ABC has accepted.
Earlier, Rhimes shared her thoughts to NPR and said, "I feel like there is a finite amount of “Scandal” to be told. I know what the end of “Scandal” will be, and I feel really good about that. And I can see where the endpoint is. And I don't think I'm going to change that...I know how long it will be, but we'll see."
According to ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey, they were even expecting that “Scandal,” which helped cement Rhimes’ status as a showrunner and actress star Kerry Washington as a major TV star, will end sooner than later.
“I know already that she has some great ideas for next season, which will be season seven. We have not really talked about what happens after that. But I love the show and I would happily keep the show on as long as she feels that she has creative runway to write the show,” Dungey added.
There are only three episodes remaining in Season 6, Vanity Fair noted. It is not made known how many episodes will Season 7 be however.
