It's undeniable that "Outlander's" lead stars, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, have such an electric chemistry about them whenever the both of them are onscreen. An old casting reel for a look test between the two is undeniably irresistible and shows just why the Jamie and Claire Fraser love team has captured the hearts of so many fans.
It's unfortunate for fans that even if both Heughan and Balfe are pretty private about their romantic lives, both stars have already announced themselves to be taken by other people in real life.
Caitriona Balfe announced her engagement to Tony McGill, a relative industry unknown, during the 2018 Golden Globes. Balfe was nominated then for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama, where she was unfortunately edged out by Elisabeth Moss of the “Handmaid's Tale.” Still, Balfe may have been the winner for that night due to the stunning engagement ring from McGill. The couple is so low-key that their only other public appearances together were at Jodie Foster's star ceremony on Hollywood Walk of Fame and at the 2017 Oscar Wilde Awards.
Sam Heughan's love life is similarly an enigma. While he started dating his current beau, Mackenzie Mauzy, in 2016, he is also rarely seen with her in public aside from the occasional appearance at certain high profile events. Unlike his “Outlander” partner-in-crime, Heughan has yet to announce an engagement with Mauzy.
While Heughan and Balfe have already been spotted together in public in what appear to be dates, they have always emphasized to fans that they are simply close, but still friends.
For those still wishing for Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe to simply fall in love with each other, fans can tune in to “Outlander” season 4 when it airs in November.
