It doesn't feel so long ago when “Outlander” lead actor Sam Heughan, during his budding friendship with William Shatner, was chided by the veteran actor about being next in line to succeed Daniel Craig as MGM's James Bond.
@007 Have I got a guy for you! Tall good looking, talented; no not me (but thank you????) @SamHeughan is your next Bond. Look no further! ❌⭕️❗️
— William Shatner (@WilliamShatner) May 29, 2016
Yes! @SamHeughan future Bond! ???????? https://t.co/4NvWttQbXp

This Bond is in the closet... Thanks @WilliamShatner .. I think!?

Hahah, I owe you! ???? https://t.co/HCRK19IR9f
In the hilarious exchange over those months in 2016, talks about Heughan potentially becoming James Bond was picked up by ET Canada.
Sam Heughan's “Outlander” leading lady, Caitriona Balfe, jokingly reflects that while she was sure that Heughan would make an interesting Bond, she would rather have herself or another actress cast for the role after Daniel Craig's Bond career.
Fast forward to 2018: Sam Heughan's comedy-action thriller “The Spy Who Dumped Me” is about to debut on the horizon, in August. Heughan co-stars in the movie as Sebastian Henshaw, a British spy who tracks down the characters of the movie's two leads, Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, as the pair tries to survive in Europe while under fire from a global conspiracy.
Heughan posted a promotional photo on his personal Instagram page, with fans commenting on how apt the actor would be as James Bond.
More support for the Scottish actor turning 007 have been popping up in 2018. Amy Shiels of "Twin Peaks" fame has tweeted support for Heughan on her personal Twitter page.
Obvious choice in my opinion is @SamHeughan

Shiels's hashtag #SamForJames has sparked fan interest in seeing the Scottish actor take on the 007 mantle.
@SamHeughan - it's time for another Scot, he's got the brains, the talent, the versatility, the action skills, and of course - he's got the "wearing a tuxedo like a god." down pat. #SamHeughan007 #JamesBond #SamForJames #007

In an interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Sam Heughan mentions that playing Ian Fleming's British spy was “part of every British actor's heritage.” Heughan does not deny that he would love to have the part of James Bond but does echo Caitriona Balfe's view that a female actor playing Bond would be a preferable option for the times.
While all the excitement about Sam Heughan potentially becoming Daniel Craig's Bond replacement is growing amongst fans once again, we will have to wait for what will happen after 2019, when the 25th Bond movie -- still featuring the English Craig -- will premiere.
