“Riverdale” season 3 is expected to feature a flashback episode focused on the high schoolers’ parents as they further investigate the game Gryphons & Gargoyles. Meanwhile, the dark game might also cause the break up of Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse).
In this week’s episode of “Riverdale” season 3, many fans were certainly shocked and disappointed that Jughead ended up kissing Ethel (Shannon Purser). For a quick recap, it can be recalled that Jughead wanted to find answers regarding how Gryphons & Gargoyles killed a couple of characters previously, so he decided to play with Ethel.
Jughead wanted to have Ethel's copy hoping that by keeping it, he could end all the bad things that happened recently. But Ethel only agreed if Jughead would kiss her, so he did. Now, The Daily Express speculated that this might lead to Betty breaking up with Jughead in “Riverdale” season 3.
“Riverdale” season 3 is evidently all about the game Gryphons & Gargoyles, which executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa simply described as the show’s own take on Dungeons & Dragons. Obviously, the main difference is that “Riverdale’s” version of the game actually kills its players.
Meanwhile, Jughead and Ethel’s game led to another problem. Now, everyone in the high school has a copy of the murderous game. This could be Betty’s hint to finally confront her mother, Alice (Mädchen Amick), and demand what she knows about the Gryphons & Gargoyles in “Riverdale” season 3 episode 4, titled “The Midnight Club"
Alice will admit to Betty that the game has been around in Riverdale High for decades and that she played it in 1992. But Alice was not alone as she experimented with it “along with a young Fred (KJ Apa), FP (Cole Sprouse), Hermione (Camila Mendes), Hiram (guest star Michael Consuelos), Sierra (Ashleigh Murray), Penelope (Madelaine Petsch) and Tom (Casey Cott)” — the “Riverdale” season 3 episode 4 official synopsis (via Comic Book) revealed.
Alice will relive how Gryphons & Gargoyle affected them in 1992 and how they are practically still affected by it. “Riverdale” season 3 will soon reveal that a “mystery has been plaguing them all” since they started playing it in 1992. The much-awaited flashback episode will air on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
