Where is “Rick and Morty” Season 4 and why are the creators taking so long to make it? These are just two of the questions that fans of the hit adult animated show have been asking for the better part of a year. In a recent post on social media, Darn Harmon jokingly asked Justin Roiland the same thing. In the process, he may have just hinted that the show is coming back in 2019.
It’s worth pointing out that trying to predict what “Rick and Morty” Season 4 is going to be about is quite the fruitless endeavor. No one really knows what is going to happen there except the creators themselves. As such, the best bet for fans to get right would be the potential release date of the fourth season. As Den of Geek also noted, the gaps between seasons are going to be shorter in the future.
This is according to Justin Roiland who talked about the long production cycle of “Rick and Morty” Season 4. It would appear that the recent 70-episode deal they signed has made the process stable. As a result, the creators will be able to crank out more seasons at a faster pace.
"[Co-creator Dan] Harmon is in great spirits, we have a great writer's room,” Roiland said. “We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We're not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in-between seasons anymore. We're going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It's going to be really cool."
As for when “Rick and Morty” Season 4 is actually coming out, Harmon’s post on social media could have hinted that it could be in late 2019. The creators typically have a good reason for these kinds of shenanigans beyond just messing around. Unless it is just wishful thinking on the fans’ part, the show’s co-creator could be saying that the fourth season will come out late this year.
