Recently, there are speculations that “Rick and Morty” season 4 might surprise fans with a premiere episode on Christmas Day. What are the chances for this to come true?
So far, fans only know that “Rick and Morty” season 4 will surely happen and series creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have at least 70 episodes to work on. However, the specific return date of the show remains a mystery.
As Christmas Day approaches, various reports recall the post-credit scene in season 3 finale leading to speculations that “Rick and Morty” season 4 could premiere this month. Mr. Poopybutthole mentioned that the fourth season will not return in “a really long time.” However, he left an interesting clue by saying “might even have a big white Santa Claus beard” when the show comes back.
The Santa Claus reference led to the speculations that “Rick and Morty” season 4 could premiere this month in time for Christmas. However, as previously reported, 2019 sounds like a more plausible time window for the show’s return considering the schedule of premieres and finales in the past years.
On the other hand, Mr. Poopybutthole’s Christmas reference for “Rick and Morty” season 4 might still be accurate, though, he could be referring to Christmas Day 2018. When he appeared in the season 2 finale closing scene, he said season 3 will possibly arrive after “a year and a half or longer.” Note that season 2 ended in October 2015 followed by the season 3 premiere in April 2017 -- just like what Mr. Poopybutthole said.
In the case of what Mr. Poopybutthole said in the season 3 finale, the creators could still be planning a “Rick and Morty” season 4 premiere date around Christmas time. However, it could be happening in 2019.
It can be recalled that writer Ryan Ridley also previously hinted at a late 2019 release date for “Rick and Morty” season 4. “I'd be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air anytime sooner than 2019,” Ridley told The Detroit Cast.
