FX settlement provider CLS has made an investment of $5 million in R3, a New York-based enterprise software firm, and will be taking a seat on the board of directors, Reuters reported.
“We look forward to working in collaboration with other members to explore how CLS can provide transformative blockchain-based solutions,” Alan Marquard, chief strategy and development officer at CLS, said in an email to Reuters.
The investment comes as part of the third tranche of R3’s fundraising efforts, which also includes contributions from real estate firm OUE and IT services provider TIS. OUE and TIS have reportedly invested $5 million each in R3.
Launched in September 2015, R3 is leading a blockchain consortium of over 200 member organizations including banks, financial institutions, regulators, trade associations, professional services firms, and technology companies. In May 2017, it announced the completion of the first two of three tranches in its Series A fundraising round, securing USD 107 million.
R3 has developed Corda blockchain platform and has been testing it with a number of member organizations. In late 2017, it has announced the availability of Corda to the users of Amazon Web Services (AWS).
