Developers of “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake” have released an early statement confirming that the game will be absent in the upcoming Ubisoft Forward showcase. On the bright side, the title is still slated to launch next year.
‘Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake’ skips Ubisoft’s E3 2021 event
Later this week, the E3 2021 will officially begin starting with the Ubisoft Forward as one of the first events of the four-day gaming trade show. However, Ubisoft already announced on Twitter on Monday that there will be no new trailer for “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake.”
“We are making great progress for our game to release next year, but we are not ready to share any additional information just yet,” the developers wrote. Fans’ replies on Twitter have been generally welcoming of the news, and many express they approve of the decision to focus on the game development and that the studios involved are taking their time in finishing the game. It was previously reported that India-based studios Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune are co-developing “Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake.”
The Ubisoft Forward at E3 happens on Saturday, June 12. A pre-show starts at 11 a.m. PT with updates on existing games, such as “For Honor” and “Watch Dogs: Legion.” The main show begins at 12 p.m. PT where Ubisoft will feature “big announcements,” including new details about the upcoming “Far Cry 6.”
The game was announced last September, but its first trailer received underwhelming reactions from long-time fans of the franchise. The same sentiment was expressed by some fans following the Monday announcement, with one fan saying they are glad the developers are taking their time because the reveal trailer’s visuals looked “pretty rough.”
‘Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake’ release date
“Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake” developers announced last December that the game was being delayed to March 2021 from its original January 2021 launch. However, last February, the studios once again decided to change the release schedule to an unspecified date in 2022.
The game is currently confirmed to launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. However, an apparent listing error found last December sparked hope that a Nintendo Switch port and upgraded versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S might also be in the pipeline. Note, though, that the Ubisoft Store page has been updated, and mentions of the Switch and current-gen consoles have been removed.
