The Militant group in the Middle East, Islamic State in Iraq and Levant, popularly known as Isis has claimed responsibility for the fatal attack in a gay nightclub in Orlando that left at least 50 people dead and more than 50 fatally wounded. The man named Omar Mateen, pledged allegiance to Isis by calling 911, before he attacked the nightclub using an assault rifle, a handgun, and a suspicious device, according to law enforcement officials. The shooting began at 2 am in the morning and the terror ended when swat team officials finally killed him at 5 am. With so many being fatally wounded, death tolls are likely to rise in the coming days.
The attacker, Omar Mateen is from a family of Afghan immigrant. This attack may prove to be a big game-changer in this year’s presidential election.
President Barrack Obama condemned the attack saying, “We will not give in to fear or turn against each other. Instead, we will stand united as Americans to protect our people and defend our nation, and to take action against those who threaten us.” In his speech, he also pushed for the Democratic agenda of gun-control.
Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton released a statement condemning the attack and called for redoubling efforts to defend American people at home and abroad.
Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump called for the resignation of president Barrack Obama for his weakness over radical Islam. In his twitter account, he wrote, “Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism……..I don’t want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!”
The incident will definitely heat up debates in two prominent areas – gun control, an agenda of Hillary Clinton and tougher immigration to prevent radical Islamism getting into U.S., an agenda of Donald Trump.
