In a bid to drive digitization of government services, Polish Ministry of Digital Affairs (MDA) is considering bitcoin and blockchain technology, CoinDesk reported.
Established last year, the Ministry of Digital Affairs aims to create a digital boost for the development of Poland. It focuses on developing broadband infrastructure, supporting the creation of web content and e-services and promoting digital competences among citizens.
The remarks on bitcoin and blockchain technology were made in the “Strategic Action Priorities of the Minister of Digital Affairs in computerization of public service” issued in February, 2016.
The MDA said that new technologies, computer science or telecommunications are no longer independent segments of the market, but are rather a system of connected spheres, adding that “digital affairs” is an element connecting all areas of economy, professional activity and private life.
“Constant development of technology, Internet of Things becoming more popular, alternative payment methods, e.g. bitcoin or block chain – they are all part of the infrastructure supporting Smart Cities, facilitating automation of simple activities and allowing information surge on scale never seen before. This infrastructure is necessary for the accelerated growth to take place. Technological evolution enables progress, but it also entails unknown threats. In this context, tapping into expanding opportunities for the benefit of the public but also protecting it from any negative consequences are both the task of the government”, the document reads.
These comments follow the statement made by Polish Ministry of Finance last year that said that it does not plan to initiate any new cryptocurrency-related regulations in the near future.
