Instagram Users Can Now Share Stories Where They Are Mentioned

A newly added Instagram feature lets people share stories where their friends tagged them.

Instagram announced on Thursday, “When someone mentions you in their story, you’ll be able to share that photo or video into your own story.”

Along with the new feature, Instagram has also updated the way users will be notified once friends mention them in a story. Someone tagged in a photo or video will receive an alert in their Direct Message that has the link saying “Add This to Your Story.” Clicking it will redirect the tagged Instagram user to a new page where they can add their preferred stickers and other customizations.

“When your followers see your story, the original poster’s username will appear and will be tappable, so people can explore your friend’s profile as well,” Instagram said.

Based on Instagram’s announcement, reposting of content is allowed only in the Your Story feature, where updates can be viewed over a 24-hour span. Resharing tagged stories is possible only if the person who originally posted the content has set their profile to public.

There is no word yet whether or not Instagram will add this feature to the News Feed section, where posted photos and videos are permanently available unless users delete them. But there are several third-party apps on the iOS App Store and Android Play Store that let people repost any publicly shared content they see on their News Feed by simply copying the image’s URL.

To start using the new feature, Instagram users must update their app to version 48. It is now available on Android and iOS.

Instagram has been one of the go-to social media platforms where people can easily share photos and videos with their followers. But some of the much-needed features have been added only within the past couple of years despite the fact that Instagram has been active since 2010.

For example, the size of photos to be posted on the Instagram used to be quite restrictive and posting the images without cropping them required third-party apps. Luckily, the option to zoom out images without leaving Instagram was added.
