PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds had a phenomenal year in 2017 and it looks like 2018 is shaping up to be just as great for the game. The Xbox One port of the MMO shooter might have been controversial, but it seems the publisher and developers are already thinking about adding the PlayStation 4 to the ecosystem. PUBG also recently surpassed three million concurrent players on Steam, further proving its dominance in the Battle Royale genre.
As Forbes notes, the recent comments by PUBG Corp. CEO Chang Han Kim about wanting to bring the game to all platforms is just vague statements, at best. The exclusivity deal that the publishers have with Microsoft to keep the game only on the Xbox One console will likely persist for some time. Kim said that with the title having just released on the console, their focus would be on that.
However, the simple existence of that desire makes the potential for a future release of PUBG on the PS4 or even on the Switch, if the Nintendo console can handle the game more likely. What’s more, it has never actually been denied that the Sony game box might host the hugely popular Battle Royale title in the future.
Whether it does or it doesn’t, however, it’s undeniable that PUBG is currently the reigning king of the industry. The game recently surpassed the three million concurrent player mark on Steam, which is something that the platform had never seen before, Gamespot reports. Shortly after that, the developers also released new updates that fixed many of the game’s remaining issues.
The issues that the update addressed includes long-range hits not properly registering, which meant sniping was a problem. The random crashes to the lobby have also been dealt with, making gaming sessions more stable for the players going forward.
