Sony hasn’t even officially announced the existence of the “PlayStation 4 Slim” version that recently leaked and yet someone already posted a review of the console. As expected, this presented the reviewer with a lot of challenges, not least of which was finding publishers willing to risk Sony’s wrath and considerable legal resources.
The reviewer in question is one Laura Kate Dale and she posted her review of the “PS4 S” long before Sony even got the chance to make the announcement regarding the console. Many are expecting for the company to do so during the September 7th PlayStation event, where the “PS4 Neo” might also finally be unveiled.
As Dale notes on her review, she was perfectly aware of the circumstances and understood that the unit was not even meant to be sold just yet. She also added a disclaimer that while the console did indeed originate from an actual retail store, it was not stolen property.
After getting through all the precautionary measures, Dale then proceeded to describe the “PS4 S” as being pretty much the same as the bigger version. Performance wise, the two units are no different, except perhaps for the fact that the “S” seemed to be “cooler and quieter.” In terms of dimension, Dale listed the numbers as 264 x 39 x 288mm.
It seems the unit will also come with a redesigned DualShock 4 controller. The new controller features a light strip at the top, which is meant to indicate effects experienced in-game such as damages to health.
When she spoke with Kotaku, Dale shared her apprehension about publishing the review, specifically with regards to the possibility of getting sued by Sony. So far, the company has issued no warnings or reacted in any way. As to why she did it, Dale indicated that she got tired of Sony keeping quiet about something that is already practically confirmed.
