There are still a few days left before the end of May, but details about Sony’s next lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers may have leaked already. Even more interesting is the report that the list will include an all-new game.
The Spanish website AreaJugones has reported that Sega’s new “Virtua Fighter 5” is slated as one of the free games included in the PS Plus lineup for June 2021. This could mean that the fighting game could be offered as a timed exclusive on the PlayStation platform if its official launch coincides with its addition to the PS Plus library.
Sega’s new “Virtua Fighter 5,” currently referred to as the “Virtua Fighter x esports Project,” is the company’s bid to bring the franchise into the lucrative esports industry. It can be recalled that a new title from the franchise called “Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown” was previously seen rated for PS4 by Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee.

More details about the new “Virtua Fighter 5” are expected to be announced during a livestream event hosted by Sega on May 27. If the report was accurate, Sony could unveil the official PS Plus free games list for June 2021 on the same day.
Fans are always advised to take leaks and rumors with a grain of salt. But it is also worth noting that AreaJugones famously leaked the complete list of PS Plus free games for May 2021, a couple of days before Sony made the official announcement.
The same source mentioned (through a rough translation via Google Translate) that the PS Plus June 2021 lineup will include two more popular titles. The new “Virtua Fighter 5” is rumored to be accompanied by “Star Wars: Squadron” and “Operation: Tango.” AreaJugones added that the latter might be offered exclusively on PS5, although the tipster noted they have not been able to confirm this yet.
The release of free games through PS Plus was made simple. Instead of tracking various dates of when free games will go live, Sony has been offering three free titles that subscribers can access for the entire month. The same source then expects the new “Virtua Fighter 5,” “Star Wars: Squadron,” and “Operation: Tango” to become available for free on June 1.
