Over 50 lawyers team up for Digital Currency and Ledger Defense Coalition

A new coalition has been formed that will focus on the legal issues surrounding digital currency and distributed ledger technology.

More than fifty blockchain legal experts have come together to launch the Digital Currency and Ledger Defense Coalition (DCLDC). The participating lawyers will aim to connect users with pro bono legal resources.

The DCLDC was founded to help protect individual constitutional rights and civil liberties in connection with regulatory and law enforcement scrutiny and efforts relating to digital currencies (e.g. bitcoin) and ledgers (e.g. blockchains)”, the official website reads. “We want to help foster innovation in those technologies so they may be used for the betterment of society.  The DCLDC will advance its important mission through pro bono attorney referrals to those who cannot afford legal services and the submission of amicus briefs on key issues.”

In particular, the lawyers will focus on digital currency and distributed ledger legal issues in a united effort to protect the individual constitutional rights and civil liberties of innovators experimenting with these promising new blockchain technologies.

Jerry Brito, executive director of Coin Center, made the announcement in a blog post. He will be serving as a board member of the DCLDC, along with Marcia Hofmann, Grant Fondo, and Marjorie Peerce. Brian Klein, partner at the boutique litigation firm Baker Marquart LLP and the chair of the America Bar Association’s digital currency and blockchain technology conference, has been named as the board chair.
