OpenAI revealed it has allied with Arizona State University for its OpenAI technology. The company's first partnership with a higher education institution will be this collaboration.
OpenAI and ASU will work together on AI research and later deploy the resulting product to benefit students and professors. Moreover, it was said that this team-up is expected to introduce the advanced capabilities of ChatGPT Enterprise to the school and equip the faculty and staff with the power to look into the potentials of generative AI that will help make teaching, learning, and discovery better.
ChatGPT Enterprise Launch in ASU
OpenAI said on Thursday, Jan. 18, that in February, Arizona State University will be given full access to its ChatGPT Enterprise, the upgraded version of its ChatGPT chatbot designed for business clients. The company said professors and other school staff will use it for tutoring, research, coursework, etc.
As per CNBC, the cooperation between OpenAI and ASU has been in the works for at least six months, leading to this week's partnership announcement. The ChatGPT Enterprise was first launched in August 2023, and in comparison to the first version, the business tier is two times faster and offers better performance with no usage caps.
Open Challenge Event at ASU
Starting next month, Arizona State University will administer an open challenge inviting faculty members and staff to share their ideas about the best-use scenarios related to ChatGPT.
This event aims to use the university's main knowledge core, which refers to the institution's staff, faculty, and researchers. Through this process, they would be placed at the forefront of the discovery and implementation of AI technology in universities.
"ASU recognizes that augmented and artificial intelligence systems are here to stay, and we are optimistic about their ability to become incredible tools that help students to learn, learn more quickly, and understand subjects more thoroughly," Arizona State University's president, Michael M. Crow, said in a press release. "Our collaboration with OpenAI reflects our philosophy and our commitment to participate directly in the responsible evolution of AI learning technologies."
Brad Lightcap, OpenAI's chief operating officer, also commented, "learning is core to why so many users love ChatGPT. ASU continues to lead in innovation by integrating ChatGPT into its educational programs. We are keen to learn from ASU, and to work toward expanding ChatGPT's impact in higher education."
