CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct. 12, 2017 -- OnTrac, a logistics company specializing in contracting small parcel shipping services in the Western United States, has witnessed continuous growth in package volumes and that growth has driven the need to take the Material Handling Systems (MHS) to the next level. Today, OnTrac leases fifty-two properties with over four million square feet in use. During the past year, OnTrac has grown into three new facilities within the company’s eight-state service region and is continuing to grow into an average of five new lease negotiations a year over the next 11 years. Based on growth trends, facilities are designed to be expandable systems in terms of material handling, and OnTrac has built for the future. OnTrac can sort the packages for today, and have plenty of room to handle additional packages in the future.

Over the last five years, OnTrac has had 39 MHS projects involving 28 facilities. These projects have involved the use of manual systems that require human intervention when making sortation decisions. These manual systems have been effective in increasing the company’s throughput so that OnTrac can maintain an on-time network and properly service customers. OnTrac has now reached the point in throughput needs to utilize technology for package sortation decisions that increase speed and continue to meet customer’s needs. One technology that will be utilized is the newly in-house developed OnTrac barcode technology that pulls out all relevant delivery information from the barcode to make sortation decisions. This will not only increase throughput, but will also put OnTrac in position to make dynamic routing decisions to further enhance service levels in facilities and throughout the whole network. OnTrac will also have much more detailed package tracking information for packages that go through these systems.
OnTrac Director of Facilities and Material Handling Systems Jim Brownlow says, “We are excited about what the future has in store and look forward to enhancing our customers experience through technology.”
