“Old Larimee,” The Lazy G Ranch Cook Brings the Old-West to Scientology Information Center and Saves the day

CLEARWATER, Fla., Sept. 06, 2017 -- The L. Ron Hubbard East Coast Theater brought gun smoke, mystery and magic to downtown Clearwater at the Scientology Information Center performing, “The Magic Quirt,” on August 26^th as an old-time radio show theater performance.

The L. Ron Hubbard East Coast Theatre who performed the western-comedy pulp fiction story, “The Magic Quirt” on Aug. 26th at the Scientology Information Center in Downtown Clearwater to a packed house.

The East Coast Theater troupe brought the story and characters of “Lazy G Ranch” to life. This includes “Old Larimee,” the bumbling cook for the Lazy G Ranch who accidentally manages to save an Aztec family from bandits and receives as a token of their gratitude a “magic quirt” — a horsewhip that he’s told will turn him into a new man.  The transformation is indeed magical.

In the performance with his magic quirt Larimee stands up to camp bullies, rough foremen, crooked bankers, and dangerous gun slingers and solves the murder of the Lazy G Ranch’s owner – only to discover he had the magic in him the whole time.

“The heavy cowboy dialect was thick, bullets were flying, and the distinct sounds of the Old-west with gun shots and horses were there.
We were practically back in the old west,” said Amber Skjelset – Manager of the Scientology Information Center.

One guest said, “There was so much great expression with only a little action - you could smell the horses and gun smoke!” Another guest said, “This was so fun! It totally captured me – great acting!”

After the performance guests congratulated the actors on their “stunning” performance, their costumes and their ingenuity bringing the story to life on stage.

The theater troupe’s next old-time radio show reading performance at the Scientology Information Center will be on Saturday October 14^th.

They will perform another of L. Ron Hubbard’s classic pulp-fiction stories, a murder-mystery with a touch of humor and romance called, The Mad Dog Murder.

The L. Ron Hubbard East Coast Theater, a volunteer group founded in 2011, delivers classic radio theatre performances of fiction short stories written by Hubbard in the 1930s and ‘40s.

To date, they have performed to tens of thousands. While most of their performances have been in Florida; they have also performed in Maine, Columbia University in NYC and to the Boys & Girls Club in Harlingen, TX.

The Scientology Information Center:
The Scientology Information Center, located in the Historic Clearwater Building in downtown Clearwater, opened on July 11, 2015, and currently houses a gallery of audiovisual displays with some 400 videos.

The Center is open to all provides a self-guided tour showing basic Scientology beliefs, Churches around the world, ongoing social programs and the life of L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology’s founder. The Center offers tours to the broad public and civic leaders; holds concerts, theatrical performances and receptions for the community; and opens up the use of its conference room to social, civic and non-profit groups.
