Rumors have been flying around for weeks that the PlayStation 2 classic Okami was getting remastered and these reports have finally been confirmed. The game will now feature 4K resolution and will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. No Switch version has been confirmed, but many are of the opinion that it would be perfect for the hybrid console.
Officially titled Okami HD, Capcom confirmed that the game would be compatible with the current generation of gaming platforms, Gamespot reports. The company’s press release also noted that players will be able to choose the aspect ratio that they can play with.
"Okami HD will be compatible with Xbox One X and PS4 Pro whilst featuring stunning 4K graphics on Xbox One X, PS4 Pro and supported PC hardware," the press release reads. "Players will be able to choose between playing in a modern widescreen format or the original 2007 release’s 4:3 ratio. Interactive loading game screens from the original game are also included, allowing players to earn bonus demon fangs which can be traded for in-game items."
The game will be re-released for the European and North American markets on December 12th. Fans of the stylistic fantasy RPG might want to mark that date on their map.
Unfortunately, there is one gaming demographic that won’t be able to enjoy the remastered version of this unique offering; Nintendo Switch owners. As Polygon pointed out, Okami HD might have been perfect for the portable console for several reasons.
For one thing, it’s a perfect representation of video games that Nintendo fans have come to love about the company’s titles. With the Switch being portable, being able to play Okami HD everywhere would have been a huge selling point. Also, the game features 30 hours of adventures, which would be addressed quite easily by the console’s portability as well.
