Nintendo Switch Online: Nintendo Starts Charging Online Service

Nintendo Switch/Facebook

Nintendo Switch is one of the game consoles you may want to receive this coming holiday. Many users have enjoyed the free online game. However, this period has come to an end as Nintendo Switch Online has been launched.

Nintendo Switch Online is now live with the 6.0 system update. What will happen after the update is Nintendo starts charging for online play, although there is a free seven-day trial available to sample it first.

According to GameSpot, owners of Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus, who want to get the most out of their Switch need to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online. The update won't affect Wii U or Nintendo 3DS owners, and online service for those systems will remain free). Nintendo Switch users have no choice but to pay the subscription to continue the service.

Nintendo Switch Online Plan

Although the online service is not free anymore, take a look at the bright side. According to the source, Nintendo Switch Online service is affordable compared to its competitors.

While users need to pay $60 for a year's subscription to Sony and Microsoft's services, Nintendo only charges $20. Another good news is, you can choose what plan you want. Here's the breakdown.

a. One month -- $4

b. Three months -- $8

c. One year -- $20

For users who have multiple people in their homes, you may consider the family plan, which costs $35 per year. This plan allows up to eight people to play online.

Nintendo Switch Online has its app version for iOS and Android. This app was launched in July, and there are five million iOS and Android users who have downloaded the app, according to mobile research firm Sensor Tower.

How Nintendo Switch Online App Works?

Since users can’t group up with friends nor chat with them through the Switch, they need the companion mobile app to do that. Other alternatives for communication is to use other services, like Skype or Discord. Currently, Nintendo is the only console maker that requires its owners to use an outside app for such online activities.
