Caitlin Clark’s $28M Nike deal causes fan uproar. Dwyane Wade defends her deserved recognition.

Caitlin Clark's groundbreaking $28 million deal with Nike has sparked a wave of fan outbursts, with Dwyane Wade supporting the rookie WNBA star amid the controversy.

Nike Signs Record-Breaking Deal with Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark, a rookie WNBA player, has captivated fans with her performance and made history with a groundbreaking $28 million, eight-year signature contract with Nike. This deal shattered all previous records and sparked admiration and criticism.

A'ja Wilson, a seven-year veteran of the Nike roster, has finally been acknowledged for her immense contributions. After years of underappreciation, she is now offered a contract for her signature shoe.

Dwyane Wade Supports Clark Amid Fan Backlash

Although Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade appeared to share his fans' discontent and exasperation regarding the situation, he maintained that Clark deserved favorable publicity and lucrative contracts. The former NBA player offers his opinion on the WNBA and Clark in "The Wine Down" podcast.

"I think Caitlyn Clark's shoe deal was deserved and needed and it's not even about what she did in the WNBA. This about her brand that's around the that's so big around the world and so you know it's going to be a lot of you know young girls that's going to play volleyball and basketball and other sports is going to that's going to rock Caitlyn Clark sneakers," Wade stated.

Wade stated in one segment of the podcast that fans are currently angry about certain WNBA players having yet to ink signature shoe deals.

Wade explained that the pay disparity between women's and men's professional leagues is due to various factors, including the difference in revenue and viewership, which leads to lower endorsement opportunities for women athletes. Many continue to criticize this point, arguing that it perpetuates gender inequality in sports.

"You ain't supporting them like they ain't got signature shoes because no one has been. They've had a couple people but it's not like it's people going out and running to sleeping overnight like they do with Jordans to go get these things," he added.

A'ja Wilson Finally Gets Recognized by Nike

Fans' dissatisfaction is understandable, according to EssentiallySports, considering that Wilson has won two WNBA championships, been named Defensive Player of the Year twice, been recognized as the league MVP twice, and made five All-Star appearances.

Wade expressed his excitement and anticipation when discussing Wilson's impending shoe deal, sharing that he can't wait to buy a pair for his daughter.
