Blizzard revealed a new expansion for its hit World of Warcraft MMORPG called Battle for Azeroth during Blizzcon 2017. Built on the premise of dividing the Horde and Alliance once again after the events of Legion, this new expansion takes the game back to the franchise’s roots. The two main factions will be at each other’s throats, just as they were in the first Warcraft game.
In an interview with Gamspot, John Hight, the production director of WoW explains what the new expansion is about. He also notes why this new expansion might be a great entry point for players who are new to the MMORPG. Beware of spoilers below.
For those who have already played the Legion expansion pack, they might already know of the uncomfortable cooperation that the Horde and the Alliance formed when the demons invaded Azeroth. During their brief partnership, several events occurred that caused the two parties to split. The enmity between the two factions will only grow during the start of Battle for Azeroth, which will pit the two sides together once more.
“Some of the imagery that you'll see is the scene is with Sylvanas standing in front Teldrassil on fire. Then with the opening cinematic, that event was right before the Alliance finally says, "Okay, we've had it" before they assault Lordaeron. So some pretty heavy stuff is going to happen between them. And we just felt like this would be a really cool time to go back into that age old battle between Alliance and Horde,” Hight said.
WoW is not the only game in Blizzard’s lineup that is getting a nostalgia treatment either. As PC Gamer reports, the publisher is also bringing Blackthorne and The Lost Vikings to the current market. This is following the company’s release of StarCraft: Remastered early in the year and giving Warcraft 3 a public test realm.
