President-elect Donald Trump is known for spouting things that are not exactly accurate or even true. During his run for the presidency, the New York native made some incredibly bold claims. After winning via a slight majority with the Electoral College, he continues with his trademark behavior of Tweeting false details with abandon. Thanks to a new tool developed by The Washington Post, however, it’s now easy to fact-check everything that Trump or anyone decides to Tweet.
The Washington Post has been one of the most vocal opponents of Trump during his campaign, which made the publication enemy number one for the real estate magnate. Now, the paper is continuing its efforts to keep the president-elect in line with a new tool that it made. According to the publication, by simply installing the extension to their Google Chrome browsers, users can easily see when Trump is lying and which part was the lie.
The publication admits that the tool isn’t perfect and that there are some details that it can miss thanks to the arbitrary nature of Tweets. However, it can at least offer a base for users to understand that Trump’s Tweets rarely contain truthful materials. With the rising influence and widespread delivery of fake news, every little bit counts.
On that note, there’s also the matter of limited access to said extension, as Fortune points out. Anyone who would be interested in using the extension in the first place would already be completely or somewhat aware of Trump’s tendency to fabricate details. This means that the tool would simply be preaching to the choir, so to speak.
The chances of reaching Trump supporters is incredibly slim through the tool, which does go far in terms of reducing its overall impact. More than that, many of the president-elect’s most ardent believers have openly boasted about their stance against what they considered was elitism. It just so happens that facts fall under this category.
