“NBA 2K” ratings is one of the most controversial aspects of the video game, and the recently revealed dunk ranking for “NBA 2K20” is not helping its case. Developers gave New Orleans Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson a dunk rating of 97, placing him on top of the list and surpassing other players who have actually played in the professional league.
‘NBA 2K20’: Fans question Zion Williamson’s dunk rating
Williamson was already popular during his National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) stint playing for Duke University. His following further grew when he became the overall first pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, which was expected by many basketball fans and analysts. So when he was the only rookie included in the “NBA 2K20” trailer, it was not much of a surprise as well.
A week before the release of “NBA 2K20,” developers revealed the top 5 players for the game’s dunk ranking with Williamson on no. 1. He is followed by Zach Lavine and Donovan Mitchell with a 96 rating. Aaron Gordon and Hamidou Diallo share a spot with a dunk rating of 95. Lavine won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2015 and 2016 while Mitchell and Diallo also won in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Fans were quick to question how Williamson ended up being in the first place when he has not even made a single dunk in the NBA. Williamson’s fans came to his defense arguing that the rookie has already proven his slam dunk prowess in the NCAA.
Both sides may have merit to their arguments, but it is hard not to point out that 2K could also be capitalizing on Williamson’s popularity to further market “NBA 2K20.” Additionally, the ratings may change depending on the players’ actual performance in the NBA season 2019-20.
‘NBA 2K20’ release date, gameplay: Developers introduce changes and improvements in various game modes
Aside from the debates that the “NBA 2K20” ratings have caused, there are other talking points about the game, especially when it comes to the changes and improvements applied to the gameplay. Per popular demand, the game will once again feature the Neighborhood with the return of Park Rep with an all-new rooftop court where 3v3 games will be played.
“NBA 2K20” also marks the first-ever addition of WNBA players to the franchise. The game will be released on Friday, Sept. 6 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
