Michael Schumacher's legacy in Formula One racing is not just a story that people share around the pits. For some, the German driver's achievements are a standard to be beaten while others see Schumacher as family due to his long career in Formula One, which is why it is surprising when those two kinds of people overlap.
In an interview with Express, Michael Schumacher's long-time rival, David Coulthard, shared his feelings about his colleague. According to Coulthard, he hopes that a miracle happens so that he and Michael Schumacher can have fun and laugh together again. Despite their rivalry, Coulthard and Schumacher have grown together as respected friends, with the drivers even swapping helmets during Schumacher's first retirement back in 2006.
While Coulthard's well wishes come from a place of going through both the best and the toughest times – usually on the competing side – with Michael Schumacher, Formula One's younger generation has just as much respect to give for the former “Silver Arrow.” In an interview with Sky Sports, British rising star Lewis Hamilton was faced with a question asking him if he considers himself “The Greatest of All Time.”
According to Hamilton, Michael Schumacher's is still far ahead in terms of the number of wins he has under his belt, still making him the greatest of all time. Fans of Hamilton are excited that the 33-year old driver has a realistic chance of reaching or even surpassing Schumacher's records, but Hamilton himself states that while reaching the number may be a goal, he is not necessarily trying to reach Schumacher's number with the simple intent of just beating him.
For Hamilton, Michael Schumacher's achievements are something he can hope to get close to, which allows him to push to give his all to the sport. Because of this, Hamilton definitely considers himself to always be a fan of Michael Schumacher.
Fans of Michael Schumacher may not be getting much news from the Schumacher family due to their desired privacy, but it seems that much like Schumacher's friends and admirers, his fans are on the same boat. Those who are hoping for Michael Schumacher's recovery can only wait and see if the legendary driver's condition will get better soon.
