Melania Trump has had a troublesome 2018 filled with scrutiny and criticism from both the media and the public alike. Recently, the FLOTUS received yet another wave of these when she visited the war-torn regions of Iraq.
However, this was more of comical scrutiny than anything else as people took to Twitter to voice Melania Trump’s choice of wardrobe. The first lady wore an exorbitant jacket and trousers both costing around $1,000. But the design was what really caught people’s eyes.
Due to the trousers’ deep tan shade, spectators initially thought that Melania Trump wasn’t wearing any pants at all. Indeed, if one would watch this video here, you would assume the same as well. Another thing that people noticed was the FLOTUS wearing sunglasses at night.
Of course, this may be because Donald and Melania Trump has had a long flight going to Iraq and the sunglasses may be to hide her bleary eyes. It goes without saying that all of these scrutinies is trivial. But it does highlight the fact that the FLOTUS is constantly put under the microscope.
This consistent scrutiny is among the major reasons for Melania Trump’s spokesperson to lash out last month against the media. Stephanie Grisham said that it isn’t fair for that the FLOTUS is getting all these negative remarks since she’s been doing her best at carrying out the tasks given to her.
“I can't tell you how many inquiries I get that has nothing to do with the substance of her work. [Melania Trump] went two weeks ago to Liberty University and spoke to 10,000 college kids about the dangers of opioid abuse. She gave an off the cuff answer about Christmas décor and for two days that's what we talked about - Christmas decor. I think the media is missing an opportunity to cover the great work she is doing,” Grisham previously said.
As for Melania Trump’s current visit to Iraq, the FLOTUS sent a message on stage for the troops stationed at the base thanking them for their service. She was warmly received by the soldiers present at the gathering and was applauded after she finished her short speech.
