McDonald’s reportedly added new benefits in an effort to attract more applicants for job positions in the company. The expansion of the offerings for job applicants is the latest move to address the fast-food chain’s workers shortage.
McDonald’s restaurants have announced that they are offering higher hourly wages, tuition fee payments, paid time off, and even child care. CNBC reported that this clearly shows that the company is struggling to hire additional workers for its outlets.
More benefits as the company attempt to bounce back
Many companies, especially the food sector, were affected when the COVID-19 pandemic struck last year. At the height of the crisis, many restaurants were not able to open and forced to close since people were not allowed to leave their homes.
When the restrictions were loosened a bit, many people still chose to stay at home for fear of coronavirus infection; thus, the sales in fast-food chains continue to decline. However, after a year, things have not gone back to how they used to be, but companies are slowly getting back to the business, and McDonald’s is one of them.
Then again, as the business returns, workers still refuse to return to work, and while many people are jobless, thousands of available jobs are left vacant because people are still afraid to go out due to COVID-19.
The fear of infection led to workers' shortages that most companies are experiencing right now. This is why even the major firms have stepped up their perks and benefits so people will come out and apply for jobs. The offering of better benefits has even become a trend right now as companies try to outdo each other to be picked by jobseekers.
McDonald’s enhances staff benefits and perks
Aside from McDonald's, other major fast-food chains such as KFC, Burger King, and more have improved their incentive schemes to retain their staff and attract more workers. To have a better offer, the Golden Arches company went beyond the common perks.
McDonald’s is not offering just sign-up bonuses and higher pay; as mentioned, emergency child care has been added for those who are not able to leave for work as they have to care for their children. Finally, The Wall Street Journal noted that the burger joint giant will also give paid time offs and tuition fee coverage. The publication stated that these incentives are sure to boost the company’s image as well.
