Mark Harmon is not only the leading actor in the long-running series “NCIS" he also serves as one of its executive producers. And he recently explained why he thinks the show will not end anytime soon.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Harmon said, “I’ve always thought if there’s ever a time where the writers are walking into the room and going ‘I don’t know what to do,’ then I think we all have to look at each other and call it a day.” But luckily for fans who are not yet ready to see “NCIS” end, Harmon confirmed they have not reached that point yet.
The first season of “NCIS” premiered in 2003 and the show seems unstoppable ever since. It is one of the few active U.S. TV series that managed to see growth in its viewer ratings by the millions. Its current and 16th season is listed as one of the most watched shows in the U.S. that has been seen by over 16 million viewers as of fall 2018.
Meanwhile, Harmon has also been rumored of planning to leave the show allegedly due to his dwindling health. But that gossip was already dismissed and Harmon's interview with PEOPLE implies he intends to stay in “NCIS” until its final season.
Harmon's relationship with his co-stars was also repeatedly rumored shaky, especially when long-time series regular Pauley Perrette left after season 15. The actress has since shut down all the “false stories” surrounding her decision to leave. Meanwhile, actor Sean Murray has nothing but praises for Harmon.
So it is true that I am leaving NCIS...

Murray believes Harmon's dedication to “NCIS” as a huge factor to its success and told Country Living that the 67-year-old actor is a “very special individual.” Murray, who plays Special Agent Timothy McGee since season 1, said, “He’s a real actor. He goes for the realness of it, the truth of it, you know. That’s what we all strive to do as actors. Boy, is he good at it.”
Harmon recognizes that “NCIS,” like all other good things, will come to an end. But he reiterates there is a “tremendous amount of pride” in being part of the series and assured fans that he “[sees] no reason to leave.”
