“Manifest” season 1 started off great and it is now on its fifth episode. The new mystery-thriller show is gaining more viewers as the story unfolds. Apparently, NBC is impressed with its performance, so it ordered three more episodes, extending the show to 16 episodes long.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC made the decision after the first four “Manifest” season 1 episodes made the show one of the top-rated new series in fall. With the extension, the show became the fourth new program to be extended on NBC.

According to records, “Manifest” season 1’s Sept. 24 pilot drew in a 4.2 percent rating in the 18-49 age demographic group. It attracted a total of 18.4 million viewers and this number is said to be the second highest ever for a broadcast show.

As per Rotten Tomatoes, the synopsis for “Manifest” season 1 episode 5, titled “Connecting Flights,” reads: “Stories unfold for those left behind in the aftermath of Flight 828's disappearance. Meanwhile, in the present, Cal takes Ben on a mysterious adventure that awakens Ben to his son's perplexing abilities. Michaela tries to protect Jared from consequences at work while keeping her romantic feelings at bay.”

“Manifest” season 1 episode 5 will have flashbacks and it will show how three of its main characters, Grace, Olive and Jared, coped with the loss of their loved ones when Flight 828 disappeared. The love angle between Michaela and Jared will also be tackled in the upcoming episode.

“Manifest” season 1 tells the story of a missing plane and its passengers. While airborne, Flight 828 experienced turbulence on its way back to New York City. The plane also lost its power but it came back on very quickly.

However, when the plane finally reached New York and landed at the airport, the passengers and the crew were shocked to learn that all of them have been presumed dead since they have been missing for more than five years already.

The passengers do not know what exactly happened to them or the plane after they experienced the violent shaking of the plane. Now, they returned to the lives that they did not know were already five years ahead since they took Flight 828, and by this time, the world has already moved on without them.

“Manifest” season 1 episode 5 is set to air on Oct. 22 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
