Mac Miller’s toxicology report was released on Monday and it confirms that the rapper died from a dangerous mix of the opioid fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol. As such, the coroner has ruled the musician’s death as an accident, The Independent reported.
It’s no secret that Mac Miller suffered from addiction for much of his life and his success contributed to the exacerbation of it. Even the rapper himself admitted that having a lot of money at his disposal led him to try a lot of illegal substances.
“I'm always like, if someone’s like, 'You wanna try this?' I'm like, 'Yeah sure.' And then it just kind of f***s you up when you have a bunch of money because you try a drug, you like it, then you can buy a lot of it. So, I went through about everything,” Mac Miller said.
While it’s unfortunate that the music industry has lost a talented rapper, Mac Miller’s death is but a symptom of a bigger problem. In June, the FBI released a statement saying that opioid caught their attention as a drug that has seen an increased number of users among those buying the substance from the dark web.
Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that is used in alleviating the pain of a patient, particularly those suffering from cancer. The drug, a synthetic opioid, is 50 to 100 times more powerful than morphine. And since the coroner’s findings in Mac Miller’s autopsy saw that fentanyl was mixed with other substances, the combination proved fatal for the musician.
Fans of Mac Miller were devastated after the news of his death spread. Some even blamed Ariana Grande for the rapper’s death, accusing the “Side to Side” singer of sparking the downward spiral that ultimately claimed the life of Miller.
For her part, Grande quietly paid a heartfelt tribute on Instagram where she expressed her sorrow over losing one of the people close to her. Mac Miller and Ariana Grande enjoyed almost two years of being together before parting ways.
The rapper got into a vehicular accident that was caused by intoxication just eight days after the split. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande seemed to have moved on pretty quickly as she was later engaged with comedian Pete Davidson. However, Grande’s relationship with Davidson also didn’t last long as the pair has announced they’re not dating anymore.
