Lotte Group leaped into the healthcare business in Japan by setting up an online platform dedicated to health maintenance, management, and more. The launch aligns with the company's strategic initiative to boost its footing in the healthcare industry.
As per The Korea Herald, the platform was initially introduced as part of Lotte's digital marketing efforts in 2020. It revamped the platform to become an independent media company earlier this month, and it is now known as Lotte Medi Palette Co., Ltd.
Japanese Healthcare Platform
The platform is said to be entirely funded by Lotte Holdings using $664,000 or 100 million yen. Lotte Medi Palette is represented by Kyosuke Sakai, the executive who heads the digital marketing unit of Lotte's Japanese confectionery business.
In any case, the Lotte Medi Palette has been officially described as a media platform for providing high-quality information related to health care. The info provided is mainly tailored for everyday people. The site has a slogan: "A Healthy Future Starts Here."
Main Aim of the Project
Lotte Group's foray into the Japanese healthcare industry follows its initiatives in its home ground, South Korea. Moreover, Pulse News reported that the leading goal for the introduction of Lotte Medi Palette in the country is to offer a wide range of healthcare-related information and services that are strategically incorporated with e-commerce sites like Rakuten and Amazon where visitors can easily buy products they need for medical purposes.
"I think it would be good for employees to sell a business that has not been doing well for several years to another company," Lotte Group's chairman, Shin Dong Bin, said in an interview with the Japanese media about the new healthcare platform. "There are four new growth areas that are expected to grow in the future, such as biotechnology, metaverse, hydrogen energy, and secondary batteries. We are continuing to carry out replacement as a project in this area."
