'Lost Ark' developer says 'there's no way to increase' Europe Central server capacity

“Lost Ark” players joining the game through the Europe Central server can expect the long queues issue to persist. Developer Smilegate RPG and publisher Amazon Games addressed fans in a recent update, saying that the region’s expansion is not an option.

The massively multiplayer online game was just released in Europe and North America earlier this month. It has immediately seen immense success, but it also spun into some issues for players. Just a few days after the launch of “Lost Ark,” players quickly experienced long queues prompting Smilegate to create a new region.

The developer delivered its promise as the Europe West servers went live last Feb. 17. However, Smilegate previously noted that switching servers to avoid the long queues in the Europe Central region may not be ideal for “Lost Ark” players who already established a character in this server.

That means, despite the opening of a new region, European players will continue to experience long queues. “The Europe Central region is at capacity and unfortunately there is no way to increase the number of players per world in Europe Central,” Smilegate said on Monday. “Adding more servers is not possible based on the complexity of all the systems that need to work together.”

The developer reiterated that the new Europe West region would be the best course for people who are just joining “Lost Ark.” The game does not support cross-region play, which means progress made in Europe Central will not be carried over to Europe West. Smilegate added that the new server could be a viable option “for players who have not significantly progressed on Europe Central.”

Given the situation, players in Europe and North America have requested for an instant “server transfer functionality,” which Smilegate says is not available in “Lost Ark.” However, the developer noted that a somewhat similar feature was already released in Korea. But it can only process transfers on a weekly basis with each batch requiring maintenance every time. Smilegate noted, however, that it is unlikely to resolve the long queues in European servers since it also does not support cross-region play.
