“Legends of Tomorrow” season 4 seems to be upping the ante in a direction that the other shows in the Arrowverse cannot.
Compared to the more serious and dark tone that the show's sister series, "Arrow," seems to be heading in its seventh season, Caity Lotz, who plays the White Canary, and Brandon Routh, who plays Atom, have teased that “Legends of Tomorrow's” fourth season will be a bit lighter. This would seem like an understatement considering how “Legends of Tomorrow” season 3's season finale ended.
Lotz mentioned that the show will lean towards the more fantastical elements that the time-traveling heroes explored in season 3. The third season, which introduced us to Mallus the time demon, and the hodge podge of differing warrior cultures all out for the Earth Totems may seem like the serious “save-the-world” fanfare fans should expect from modern superhero shows.
While not fluffy and cute, Mallus gives the show's heroic cast a definite big bad to fight without worrying about the moral implications of fighting the time demon. But the definite kicker has to be the final battle between the guardian summoned by the totems, and Mallus himself. Who can deny that Mallus being defeated by the giant Beebo doll is as light and as cute as things can get on superhero television?
Even Jonah Hex, one of the grittiest characters in DCs stable and who got some screen time during the show's last episode, in no way diminishes the lighthearted melee that happens between the oversized ball of fuzz and a time demon determined to come back and dominate the world.
If Lotz and Routh tell the audience to expect more of this lighter experience from “Legends of Tomorrow” season 4, it will be a hard time to guess in what direction of silly and fun the latest season will go when it arrives. “Legends of Tomorrow” season 4 will return with its season premiere on Oct. 22.
